Daily writing prompt
What’s a common misconception people have about happiness?

I strongly believe now that happiness depends on having a specific state of mind; which state of mind we must be intentional to achieve.

We must work on our perceptions, and we must intentionally favor adoption of those that give us a state of mind that is receptive to happiness.

I feel I am now the wiser. I realize how baffling to some it may be, when others question them as ungrateful for their lack of happiness.

After all, they have everything, but are ‘ungratefully unhappy’, we think.

What more do they really want?

They have everything, but are mopping about unhappy.

Conclusions based on the belief “if I had what they have I would be happy!”

Happiness as is determined by perception explains, perhaps, why some have made an intentional choice to put distance between them and certain material things and or people, so they may be happy.

It is amazing how the same things which failed to make you happy while you were in one situation, make you happy when your situation changes.

And I use situation broadly, to include change in physical geographical environments as well. Change from the city to the rural areas, for example.

If you are in certain type of state of mind happiness will elude you, for that I am certain.

We all need to constantly check our thoughts and mindset, in order to discover that which is hindering our acceptance of that which could make us happy.

And yes, there will be times when it will be tough to let go of perceptions and beliefs, but we must do so for our own happiness.

I love it when I make such a choice and in the end I find myself thriving, minus that which I thought I could not do without, to be happy.

Happiness just doesn’t happen to us, it is an intentional choice. We must proactively do the work to be happy.
