“No one is above the law nor beneath its protection.”
The ideal of the words of wisdom from the 44th President of the United States, Barack Obama, I aspire to live by.
I do not think that I have ever been in the position to believe and imagine that I am above the law.
Here the law, written or unwritten, is all encompassing.
Including abiding by rules and procedures of organizations or institutions in which I am an actor.
Similarly, including abiding by rules, traditions, etc., of communities in which I live – all the way from household level to the village and wider community.
It is the second part of POTUS Obama’s wisdom that I wish and pray for the most to prevail for me and in my homeland.
The ideal in which we, citizens, irrespective of our station feel and experience the protection of the law, remains significantly elusive in my motherland.
In the meantime, I do my best to live within the law, irrespective.
I believe that living within the law is a tried and tested avenue for success.
Even when it is such a bad law, live within it as you challenge it or support initiatives that are challenging it. This is what I believe.
My two bits …
