First a disclaimer. I honestly do not think that it is extra ordinary for us to randomly find things on our streets.
I dare say it is more the norm for things to be looked for on the streets than we would look for them in the ‘official shopping places.’
It is difficult for me to pinpoint that one best thing I have ever found randomly on the street?
Seriously, what is not available on our streets?
I remember hosting a guest whose home country is one outside Africa; and it appears it was her first visit to Africa too.
With a sense of humor, which I did not get at first, she shared her incredulity at the range of things hawked on our streets.
And yes, motorists shopping on the street have been known to cause traffic jams.
Hawker approaches motorist during a traffic stop. They agree. Motorists pays with a big bill. Hawker has no change. Runs off to look for change from a fellow hawker.
Traffic releases, cars start to move. Motorist drives slow. Hawker comes running back with the change. Only when transaction is completed, does the motorist drive at speed expected.
Of course, other motorist are enraged, but it has been normalized. You are expected to accommodate the inconvenience.
Oh gosh!
Without a doubt, some of my best things found on the street are better fruit – organic and at much lower prices. But then again, it has become the norm for me to buy fruits off of street vendors.
