WordPress Tutorials

Take free tutorials right here on WordPress, and then implement the learning.

So far, some of the learning I have implemented and I believe has improved the search engine optimization (SEO) of my website, in no particular order is:

Image or Photo Descriptions

In the past, I would upload an image or a photo and did not always bother to provide more descriptive text (alternative text) as to why the choice of the photo or image.

Now, I do my best to do so.

I make every effort to do so also for old photos already loaded on the site, when I use them for a new post and or when I edit the old post in which they were prior uploaded and published.

My Mission

Sometimes back, I had the opportunity, a paid gig, to moderate an event, the launch of the “Audacious Women’s Business and Life Accelerator.” I benefitted from the conversations at that event immensely.

One of the lessons that I took away from that event was the emphasis on having a mission – a memorable mission statement that encapsulates a brand.

Post event, I reflected on it, and decided on the mission for my blog:

Civic activism rooted in humanism is the mission of blogger Owaraga Norah.

To promote my brand, for each image that I load on my website, I include my mission statement in the description, as above.

For the photos already uploaded, when I use them for a new post or edit the old post, I go to the description and add my mission statement.

WordPress Tools

I absolutely love the reminders and notifications from WordPress: “Today’s throw back edition…,” “Classic material…,” “Let’s hit rewind…,” “Cracking ope the content time capsule…”

I always check them out and make every effort to review and edit the oldest posts first. Including to improve the language, photos, etc., as explained above.

I also love the “Generate metadata” option, which I now use to improve the SEO of a particular post and hopefully the wider website.

I do my best to author posts inspired by the WordPress Daily Writing Prompt.

Strategy Works

I think that this strategy is working – the views, likes, have increased and from around the world.

I would love it, however, if I would get more comments for my posts. I would love to engage more with my followers and readers in form of a conversation in comments.

Otherwise, I feel quite satisfied with my efforts.
