It was an absolute delight to meet and get to know a bit about a significant unsung shero.
After meeting her, I did a Google search to learn more about her work in public service of our nation. I found nothing. No links to stories about her.
How is it that nothing is written in the media about this awesome shero, who was the Head Nurse In Charge of the Covid-19 Treatment Unit at Mulago National Referral Hospital (2020-2022)?
Well, Retired Principal Nursing Officer, Irebu Margaret Florence Ikwenya, is still at it with her awesomeness. Embodying the adage “retired but not tired.”
She continues to be of service to her nation as the Principal of Bukedea Health Institute, since 2022 to date.
My niece, she who is named after me, Valerie Alinga II, a student nurse, was star struck meeting our shero. And the latter did not disappoint.

I am certain Alinga II now has stars in her eyes reaming and working towards attaining high in service such as our shero.
What an awesome career journey Alinga II has her sights on. The spirit of papa, now rested, whom Alinga II spent significant time assisting me in providing home care must be smiling down, watching and urging her on.
If it had not been for Ejakait Joseph Oyoka and his wife, Mrs. Martha Amongin Oyoka, my cousin sister, hosting us at their home, I would never have gotten to know of and appreciate our shero.
Significant food for thought for us in the media, about whose praises we sing and whose we don’t.
