On this Labor Day 2025, on my mind is a quote that reflects the foundation I attempt to live by and has powered me through, at least for the last four years, since my papa died.
“Trust yourself. You’ve survived a lot, and you’ll survive whatever is coming.” Robert Tew (source @ The Today Show)
So, as I battle a serious gold, am feeling low, I am at my desk.
Seriously, I am absolutely challenged by an unappreciative client, whom I suspect allows a toxic work environment to fester within, symptoms of which can be deduced from their external communication.
I digress. This is not about me.
On this labor day, I really cannot get out of my mind the letter from the Uganda Law Society to the Chief Registrar on the matter of issuance of legal Practicing Certificates to its members.

If such gross labor injustices are being meted out on those, the Bar, who are key in our quest for justice, what chance do we have?
How have we come to this point where the Bar in Uganda is far from the ideal; and far from best international practice?
I wish the Radical New Bar success in getting the backlog of issuance of legal practicing certificates to legitimate advocates sorted out.
These days, for many of us, the Uganda Law Society seems the only body of government that is legitimately and legally trying its best to decolonize and re-orient its focus on truly serving within its mandate.
It is mind boggling, that in reaction, it would appear, the other institutions of government, especially so the Judiciary, are instead seemingly attacking and blocking at ever opportunity.
And so, to the members of the Bar, members of the Radical New Bar, you who I depend on for my quest for justice, I share with you the spirit of this quote added to among my favorites: “… you will survive whatever is coming …” fight on please.
May time come in Uganda when our labor is appreciated, facilitated and rewarded commensurately. This is my wish that it will come to pass soon.
