Number 1: Tomatoes. I honestly do not think that there is a day that goes by and I have not eaten tomatoes in whatever form. I love eating them fresh and I use them a lot in enhancing the food that I cook.
My breakfast of millet porridge and indigenous small sweet bananas (sukali ndizi)
Number 2: Bananas. We are blessed to have plenty of bananas. I love to eat them every morning and throughout the day really. I love both big ones, we call bogoya and small ones we call sukali ndizi, because they are as sweet as sugar.
Our Dr. Paul Hargrave Memorial Centre of CPAR Uganda in Lira City is lush with mango trees among others
Number 3: Mangoes. I love mangoes of all types. There are our indigenous ones which are thready, but make really great juice. No need to add sugar. Then there are those ‘new varieties’ I hear referred to as “apple mango”, which are great to eat and also to consume as juice.
Greed hard cover indigenous passion fruits
Number 4: Passion Fruits. I have a passion fruit vine, of our indigenous hard cover passion fruits growing in my front yard. It produces fruit all year round! They are great to eat, but mostly I consume them as juice.
Workers at Alinga Farms picking hibiscus sabdariffa fruit
Number 5: Hibiscus Sabdariffa. An interesting fruit that you must dry its calyces first, in order to extract the juice. Through my Alinga Farms I am a grower and dealer in Hibiscus, our brand is “Atorot” derived from the Ateso word for flower. This I take everyday, in form of cold juice or hot tea.
