Where are the descendants of the Greater Northern half of Uganda among the presidential candidates from whom Uganda will decide in 2026, exiled Ugandan award-winning novelist and human rights lawyer, Kakwenza Rukirabashaija asks on X?

“Five Baganda, Two Banyankole and one Mugisu. All men, no woman. Where are Northerners—Lango, Lugbara, K’jong and Acoli?”

This got me thinking.

Me thinks, for many of us, God has answered our prayers:

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.”

My views on voting during presidential and parliamentary elections remain and are even the more valid as I articulated them in my post of 2016: “Letter to President Museveni.”

Nine years letter, it is reported that which I wished for, in my communique to the president, will happen in the next five years or so. Apparently, he has indicated, once again, that this will be his last term of office, and as I wished, he will:

“Transition into being our revered past president who continues to guide our nation, guide Africa and guide ‘the world’, while also personally tending to his beloved cattle in Rwakitura.” Read more here …

There is every indication that President Museveni will get his latest last term in office. It is apparent that the other presidential candidates vying with him are simply jostling for the number two spot.

Similarly, their ‘opposition political parties’ simply want to be the party that will have the second largest number of members of parliament, so it can hold the position of Leader of Opposition; and also get the bigger share of IPOD money.

What good will it be for Buganda Kingdom to be affronted with five presidential candidates of Buganda descent vying for the presidency sincerely? An exercise, moreover, we pretty much already kind of know the result mbu.

Which begs the question, who benefits from five presidential candidates from Buganda vying for the presidency; and all seemingly fronting Buganda as their stronghold?

This is the question that intrigues me the more than the absence of my fellows from Greater Northern Uganda among the presidential candidates.

Granted, Buganda is the largest first nation of Uganda, but still splintered into five strongholds, it loses its numbers strength.
