On this day of Eid al-Fitr 2026, I embrace the Muslim, Arabic-origin of my name Norah and I would not mind having the tatoo of it, my name Norah, permanently artistically written on my left hand wrist.

A great reminder my tatoo would be each day of my wish for us all, humankind, to be blessed with light, radiance, divine light, enlightenment, purity, and guidance of the good kind.

It delights and fascinates me how we in Uganda co-exist peacefully, without hating each other purely on religious grounds, to the extent that we are willing to kill another in the name of religion, as it is happening in other parts of the world, unfortunately.

This is Idd Amin Mosque in Lira City, which the former president of Uganda, late Amin initiated in 1973. Construction begun in 1975, but stalled in 1979, after he was overthrown. Decades later and with funding support from Turkey, this landmark of Islamic faith in Lira was completed. It is reported to sit on a 10-acres and has the capacity to hold 5,000 worshippers.
