“Hello my dear one. I hope you are well. Did you see how our advocacy has paid off? Karamojongs appointed as ministers in the Ministry of Karamoja Affairs.”
This quote from a message that I recently got from one of the young Karimojong women, among those I consider the future of the women’s movement in Karamoja and Uganda as a whole.
It got me wondering if the beneficiaries of our brave and bold stance remember our contribution?
I wonder if they think of elevating us and celebrating us, as heroes who bravely spoke out and spoke truth to power.
As for me, on this Heroes Day 2026, I choose to remember and celebrate the Women of Karamoja.
Particularly, the organizers of the first Karamoja Women’s Conference; and those who did the post conference advocacy. Happy Heroes Day!
