Each day, I learn the wisdom of letting go. Mostly, it is for my mental health. And I am thankful.
Without such learning, as was the case in the past, today, I would have been devastated and inconsolable.
Yes, I just learnt that another one of the people I helped significantly has betrayed me in the worst possible way.
She whom I took out of a horrible ‘family set up’ and enabled to chat out a prosperous life, I learnt today, betrayed me in the worst possible way.
Never had I appreciated the famous Luganda proverb from Buganda, the largest first nation of Uganda, as I do today.
“Gwowonya eggere yalikusambya.” Translated into English, “the one whose foot you heal is the very one who will kick (or trip) you,” presumably with the very foot you healed.
As realization settled in and the penny dropped, I quickly went into how to I extricate from the breached ship?
What do I want from this, I asked myself.
My peace of mind, I answered myself.
How do I get there, I asked myself.
Then I heard my inner small voice remind me of the wisdom my young brother, he who is named after my late father, and whom we now recognize as the chief.
When I was in a similar situation, the Chief advised. Ignore all of that which does not add value to you and take only that which will enable you to achieve what you want.
As in, if it is peace of mind you want, let go and extricate yourself.
Now, when they betray me as such, I celebrate. A significant weight has lifted off my shoulders.
I do not take it for granted. I must remain open to learn each time. And each time it improves how I handle the situation.
I have also learnt, to be honest, that ranting about it here on my blog, is part of my letting go and healing journey.
And so I thank each and everyone of you my followers and who engage with my content. You are the wind beneath my wings.
