If aliens arrived tomorrow, here on earth, the first thing I would ask them:

Why do bad humans in a family, village, clan, etc., live longer?

Okay, I know I am being irrational, but bear with me, I am a victim of terror. And he who terrorizes me seems to get away with it all the time.

Others, including those who in the past colluded with he who terrorizes me, have since died, but it is like the terrorist has nine lives like a cat.

Let he or she who has never had these kind of thoughts throw the first stone.

Seriously, with what is happening now, with the exposes of corruption scandals by public and civil servants countrywide, it is shocking how broken our nation’s moral campus is.

The criminals are embolden for they get away with corruption each time. To the extent they normalized it as the go to first option.

I saw the Pallisa Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) sit on the podium, giving out saint vibes after her superior the RDC had been publicly ordered arrested for corruption.

This is the same woman who in 2023 received my written complaint and to date nothing has been done about it. The RDC was not in office that day and it was her, the Deputy RDC who was in office.

When I tried to follow-up my complaint, the RDC and the Deputy RDC, both feigned ignorance. Then subsequently, the Deputy RDC herself told me it had disappeared and that I should re-submit it.

I never did. What would be the point.

It is logical to assume that he, the terrorist who terrorizes me, who I had raised the complaint against, made the representatives of the president in the district to disappear my complaint. Take that in.

Honestly, I don’t think he had to pay them much. I mean the RDC was accused of extorting amounts as low as Shs. 200,000 (about US$ 50).

Moreover, including extorting money from indigents. Those for whom the RDC’s office is supposed to ensure provision of public services.

Whereas, the corruption fight seems heated now, it is significantly focused on money-transactions or proving money changed hands. I long for the day it shifts to the broader picture of auditing decisions of public and civil servants.

Making public and civil servants accountable for the consequences of their decision is the most effective cure for corruption in its wider sense, which includes abuse of office.

Many in Uganda are suffering helpless from the consequences of decisions made by public and civil servants who abused their offices to do so.

That single decision by the Pallisa RDC and the Deputy RDC, disappearing my complaint letter and accompanied evidence, enabled a criminal and provided the criminal with the necessary protection to be in contempt of court.

All the damage we sought court protection against, which we suspected the criminal we do, he has been facilitated to do. And with the full protection of the highest office in the district, the representative of the president.

Perhaps, now you may appreciate that when a good person is cornered and feels helpless, anything that gets rid of their aggressor the mind will entertain. It will cross your mind, for sure.

And hence, thoughts of why do bad humans live longer will cross the mind.
