A post on my blog, “Speaker Kadaga visit to Nhyenda Hill Shrines spotlights religiosity & spirituality,” has been trending. Today, the ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM), elects members of its governing body, The Central Executive Committee (CEC). This may be a major explanation why so.
She is the incumbent 2nd National Vice Chairperson (female) of NRM CEC and she wants to continue holding the position. Unfortunate for her, she has a significant major challenger, the current Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.
Kadaga’s central campaign messaging has been that she is the more competent, the more loyal and the one who has done more for the NRM. So, I did an online search of my website to confirm what opinions I have penned on Kadaga in the past. The top six online results of my search, in order:
- The blonde wig – 2021
- Speaker Kadaga’s legacy needs auditing – 2021
- Speaker Kadaga visit to Nhyenda Hill shrines spotlights religiosity – 2016
- Cabinet reshuffle signals President Museveni 2026 election campaign – 2024
- As women dominate top echelon of cabinet – 2021
- MPs compromised by debt – 2020
I clicked on and read “Speaker Kadaga’s legacy needs auditing”, and yes, it is remains valid and spot on. It decimates the central logic of her campaign in the eyes of the wider population of Uganda, particularly among those with an affinity for good governance and democratic participation.
“I saw a video in which Speaker Rebecca Kadaga was dicing her deputy, Deputy Speaker Jacob Olanya, as incompetent to handle matters in parliament, especially certain tough decisions. Decisions, according to her, like amending the constitution to remove the age-limit.” I wrote. Click on the link above and read on…
It perhaps explains why the seeming ‘do or die fight’ to retain her position in the NRM CEC, for without it, she is thrown out to the wolves and to contend with the chickens of her political legacy that have come home to roost.
