What would your life be like without music?

Music is woven in the fabric of our lives and it holds our lives together.

Take for instance, some of my best memories of my ancestors transitioned is music.

I remember my tata (grandma) and ija (aunt) now rested preparing meals, delicacies as the sang along.

Yes, often instructions during practical cooking lesson on “use the food items you have to cook a meal” were delivered through song.

Want to deliver a message to your neighbor who has angered you? Do so as you rhythmically grind millet on your grinding stone.

It is so funny that when I see a food item I sometimes, quite often, remember a song associated to it.

Plenty of songs about cooking disasters borne of ignorance.

And yes, many times I hesitate to buy food items for which am not sure how to cook it well and it ain’t a disaster.

So today when at the farmers’ market, I hesitated I didn’t buy the huge mushrooms. This action in itself would have been song composition worthy for my ancestors 🙂
