What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

Two types of meals to consider – the home prepared meal; and the meal bought ready made.

Hard to quantify the cost of homemade meals. However, there have been times when I have bought expensive ingredients only not to use them all. Thus making it not worth it.

And even when all bought ingredients are used, the outcome of the meal sometimes isn’t as good as the promise. And so, it wasn’t worth it.

But many more times my homemade meals are worth the cost.

A meal for two at House of Olel in Kampala at less than $25. The quantities and varieties of Ugandan food and the taste totally worth it.

On eating out. If I am the one buying, I try my best to buy within my means. Lately, however, I have noted the prices of food in restaurants has gone up and in some cases the value for money is not worth it.

For example, the whole fish with plantain that we used to buy at about $6 now goes for $12 and seemingly with less ingredients, thus not tasting as good as before. Not worth it.

I must say that food in lower end restaurants that prepare our traditional foods, the price is mostly worth it, really.

But overall, with pressing needs in this economy, it is tough to be objective about value for money conversstions on food purchases in 🇺🇬
