I would love to spend more time with real people at the grassroots, that is what I could do more of.
In the 1990s, I loved working with the Change Agent Training (CAT) Programme, first under Quaker Service Norway and then then the Uganda Change Agent Association.
CAT was a series of 8-week residential courses that were conducted countrywide. I loved going to different parts of Uganda and spending time with the graduating change agents.
The graduation ceremonies were really great to attend. They were self-organised by the graduating change agents and were often devoid of pretenses.
In the 2000s I enjoyed spending time at our ancestral home with my grandmas, aunts and uncles. Most have since transitioned into the spirit world and their homes are no longer what they used to be.
I pray some day I am able to spend more of my time at the grassroots with real people. Discussing how we may contribute to self-reliant participatory rural development of our respective communities.
