Daily writing prompt
What fears have you overcome and how?

I have since learnt that if you critique them objectively, even those known to be vocal in a certain fierce and intimidating way, will think twice before retaliating.

Let me contextualize this. In my neck of the woods, in particular how the majority use social media is extremely scary; worse more for my gender, women.

The amount of abusive stuff on social media and the propensity for people to readily accept lies written and said about you on social media is scary.

And so, I know many women of my generation who have simply decided to never put themselves out there.

I try my best to stick to the truth and when facts emerge that I was wrong in believing a prior narrative, I remain open to rectify course.

Like, since Hon. Muhammad Nsereko, was announced the Party President of the Ecological Party of Uganda (EPU), I have been meaning to comment.

First of all, EPU brands as a “green political party.” So, my first order of business was to establish how aligned Hon. Nsereko is to the ‘green-agenda’.

Well, according to the Wikipedia page of him, he is among those who protested the destruction of Mabira Forest, for sugarcane growing.

Nothing overt about his being of the ‘green agenda’ in his other socials, I could not find him on X, but he is on Facebook with a following of 309k.

Interestingly, he follows none on social media, not even EPU for which he is now Party President. It reminded me of the trend, social media wise, of party presidents being larger than life, in comparison to their parties.

Officially registered with the Electoral Commission on 13th August 2009, the EPU has three profiles on Facebook with a combined following of 1,218.

On X, EPU has a following of 64; and it follows 311, including notables huge numbers of followers – Amos Wekesa, Gabriel Buule and Daniel Lutaaya.

Among EPU followers on X is Ulrich Janse van Vuuren, who himself has 1.1 million followers. He describes himself as a humanitarian and environmentalist.

According to Grok, “the X community has mixed reactions, with some praising his patriotism and activism, while others criticize his stance on land issues.”

I wonder still, how is it Hon. Nsereko is aligned with ‘green party’ logic. But we wait and see how, himself, a trained journalist and lawyer, will reign.

Perhaps soon, he and EPU will be more vocal on voicing their ‘green agenda’ as the likes of Greta Thunberg do.

And to visibly align with humanitarian causes, such as Thunbeg’s latest, lending her following to an “Aid ship aiming to break Israel’s seige of Gaza.”

  2. […] Might it be fear by old owner that his donors will easily put two and two together and realizing new leader lacks historical acumen as ‘green-oriented’? […]
