“I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate you for being a good mother who understands your children. For the short period, we have spent in your hands, we have experienced an African mother’s love. I have nothing to offer as a vote of thanks, but only to say thank you from my heart. And I pray for long life. Thank you so much, madam Norah … words cannot express the gratitude I have for you. Thank you so much.”
Translation:
Tough love managing intra family relations of learners whilst they are under our care and I as the team leader.
“Spare the rod and spoil the child logic” is turned on in full force.
Zero tolerance to ‘spoilt brat’ behaviour. No, no, no, there is no violence of any kind. None of that. But any of that behaviour is called out instantly, clearly and without leaving any doubt of what behaviour is corrected, discouraged and why.
While at the same time, like a lioness who is fiercely protective of her cubs, within an African mother’s love is the instinct to be fiercely protective of all her learners. Including protecting each one of our learners in in our care from attack, including from within the family of learners and or from without.
A proud African mother I am:
How can I not be a happy cultural African mother, as I watch learners whom I have the privilege to mentor soar and grow! We all need affirmation and this message has made my day.
