Daily writing prompt
What are the biggest mistakes people make when visiting your country?

We are among the most diverse nations in the world in terms of our first nations; possibly the most diverse, in fact. For a country the size of ours, 65 indigenous communities are a lot.

I am of the fourth largest first nation of Uganda, Iteso.

I have had my fare share of visitors attempting to show me appreciation of our Ugandan culture, by addressing me or greeting me while using the language of the largest first nation of Uganda, Buganda.

Don’t get me wrong. I do not take significant offense, for I am endowed with Luganda language skills.

When it happens, and depending on how it happens that a visitor makes such a mistake, I often use it as a teaching moment.

By the way, our Country is one confusing one. It feels like we are the only country in the world in which non of the languages of the first nations of Uganda is an official language.

The official language of Uganda is English!
