Yesterday, 16th January 2024, in the evening, exactly one week since he was taken seriously ill and hospitalized, our Fred Tukei, my brother, son of my father, the late Engineer George William Obityo Owaraga, was discharged from hospital. He still has a long journey ahead to full recovery, but for now, we celebrate that he is alive.

Without the support of friends and family who made financial contributions towards Tukei’s medical bills, he may not have gotten the top-notch medical care that saved his life. I am still awed and blown away by the generosity of friends and family who sacrificed whatever they could and instantly made financial donations. The total medical bill for Tukei at both Entebbe Regional Referral Hospital and at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital, combined was a whopping 9.8 million shillings.

Friends of Tukei who hided my plea for support and made contributions through me, covered 33% of Tukei’s medical bill, a total of 3.2 million shillings.  Am humbled and indebted to you:

In addition, cousin brother, Ekanya, for your financial contribution towards Tukei’s medical costs, through me, I thank you. My support team who sacrificed time and other resources in helping me to ensure the patient and his family caregivers were nourished and in good hygiene at the hospital, I thank you. On my behalf, your prepared the meals and every single day you went to the hospital to deliver food and other necessities for the patient, his son, Isaac and his wife, Sarah, who were his primary givers. Am humbled and indebted to you:

Ms. Catherine Itipet Odyang

Ms. Hellen Abeja

Ms. Oliver Amoding

My siblings, James Okoit, Pamela Asire-Isukali, Emmanuel George Owaraga and Wilson Engatunyun, together with mum, Mrs. Betty Anne Apio Owaraga, thank for standing with Tukei.

Yesterday evening, the patient, Tukei Fred, on a wheelchair with his wife, Sarah, and son, Isaac, leaving Nsambya Hospital.

Friends and family, the confirmed hospital diagnosis as to why our Tukei fell and hit his head on a bolder while at his home in Nakiwogo in Entebbe, on the evening of the 8th January 2024, was that he suffered a mild stroke.

His medical team are confident that the mild stroke did not cause significant damage. And the surgery to manage the head trauma was successful. With physiotherapy, Tukei will be able to return back to normal.

Once again, without your immediate and urgent help this happy ending would not have come to pass. And so, thank you!
