Ms. Anita Annet Among, aged 49 years. Of Iteso descent. Of North-Eastern Uganda.
A trained accountant and lawyer who made history as the second woman to hold the position of Speaker. She became the second speaker of the 11th Parliament following the death of the first.
Mr. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah (RIP), aged 56 years. Of Lango-Acholi descent. Of Northern Uganda.
A trained agricultural economist and a lawyer who made history as the shortest serving Speaker of all time; and the first to die while in office. Shortly after his elevation to the position of Speaker of the 11th Parliament, he was taken ill; got better for a short while; and was taken ill again until his death in March 2022.
9th and 10th Parliaments
Ms. Rebecca Kadaga, aged 55 years. Of Busoga descent. of East Central Uganda.
A trained lawyer who made history as the first woman ever to hold the position. And to serve two terms (about 10 years).
7th and 8th Parliaments
Mr. Edward Ssekandi, aged 59 years. Of Buganda descent of Central Uganda.
A trained lawyer, who made history as the first longest serving Speaker of Parliament, serving in the position for about 10 years (two terms).
6th Parliament
Mr. Francis Ayume (RIP), aged 58 years. Of Kakwa descent. Of West Nile Uganda.
A trained lawyer who made history as the second Speaker of the 6th Parliament, the first of the kind of as Parliament is so defined in Uganda. He served for about three years.
Mr. James Wapakhabulo (RIP), aged 51 years. Of Bugisu descent. Of Eastern Uganda.
A trained lawyer, who made history as the first Speaker of the 6th Parliament, the first of its kind as Parliament of Uganda is defined today. He assumed the Speakership after having chaired the Constituent Assembly from 1994 to 1995. He served as Speaker of the 6th Parliament for about two years.
