The programme for aipuduno (Ateso (language of the Iteso) word meaning: “ceremony for taking out the corpse from the house”) of Papa Emorimor Osuban (1934-2022) is out. Yesterday, Thursday, 10th February 2022, a special sitting of the Parliament of the Republic of Uganda was convened, in order for the legislative arm of government to pay its last respects to the cultural leader, the Paramount Chief, of the the fifth largest first nation of Uganda, the Iteso.

The rest of the week long activities are as follows:

• Monday, 14th February 2022 – Requiem mass will be held at Namugongo Catholic Shrine, starting at 10:00 a.m. Yes, Papa Emorimor Osuban was a staunch Catholic.
• Tuesday, 15th February 2022 – Requiem mass will be held at Kololo Independence Grounds with 500 dignitaries, including His Excellency the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Kagutta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, in attendance.
• Tuesday, 15th February 2022 – a vigil will be held at Papa Emorimor Osuban’s family home in Entebbe, starting at 6:00 p.m.
• Wednesday, 16th February 2022 – The remains of Papa Emorimor Osuban depart for Tororo at 6:00 a.m. where, starting at 11:00 a.m. a requiem mass will be held and opportunity given to his subjects, Iteso of Tororo and Kenya, to pay their last respects.
• Wednesday, 16th February 2022 – The remains of Papa Emorimor Osuban depart for Soroti at 2:00 p.m., where, starting at 6:00 p.m. a vigil mass will be held at Madera Catholic Parish; the place where Papa Emorimor was baptised.
• Thursday, 17th February 2022 – Papa Emorimor Osuban’s remains will lie in state at Soroti Sports Ground, where, starting at 10:00 a.m., tributes from cultural and religious leaders will be received and ecumenical prayers held.
• Thursday, 17th February 2022 – The remains of Papa Emorimor Osuban depart for Serere at 4:00 p.m. where, starting at 7:00 p.m., a vigil mass will be held at Olio Catholic Church, Serere Town Council.
• Friday, 18th February 2022 – Papa Emorimor Osuban’s remains will lie in state at Serere District Local Government Headquarters, where, starting at 10:00 a.m., tributes from local governments in Teso will be received and ecumenical prayers held.
• Friday, 18th February 2022 – a vigil will be held at Papa Emorimor Osuban’s family home in Serere, starting at 7:00 p.m.
• Saturday, 19th Febraury 2022 – The remains of Papa Emorimor Osuban will be interred at his ancestral burial grounds in Serere. The ceremonies will begin at 10:00 a.m.
